On Saturday, September 7, among many other events taking place that day in České Budějovice, the second edition of the family festival God’s Day was held. Throughout the Sokolský Island, there were competition stations set up for children. "I liked the braiding station the most, where they braided my hair with wool and flowers, and right next to it I got a lioness painted on my face," shared Klárka from Suché Vrbné. Her brother Toníček, on the other hand, enjoyed the skill tent. "And I painted a cool t-shirt," he added, showing it off with appropriate pride. In total, about 150 competition cards were given out to children that Saturday.
In front of the stage on the main lawn, visitors enjoyed various musicians who came to support the festival under the shade of many colorful umbrellas. "At a time when everything costs money, we wanted to offer families a relaxing free afternoon with their children," says organizer Iva Hojková, who was in charge of the whole day.
Budějovická Almost Theatre Company and the Prague theater Apropos entertained both small and large with various fairy tales. The yellow bouncing castle, which was loaned for free by KDU-ČSL, was very popular among the children, as was the local ice cream shop SweetCafé.
The seven-hour festival took place in beautiful weather and a refreshing breeze. "It was a beautiful experience for me and my daughter," summarized her impressions at the end of the festival volunteer Anna, who came to help the organizers all the way from Černá v Pošumaví. The event was organized by the association Most - České Budějovice. The next event will be FamilyFest, which will take place on May 3, 2025.
